Banyumala Waterfall

A Hidden Gem in North Bali.

Bali is famous for its stunning beaches and cultural heritage, but beyond the bustling tourist areas lies a world of natural wonders waiting to be explored. One such hidden gem is Banyumala Twin Waterfall,a serene and breathtaking spot tucked away in the lush highlands of North Bali. Surrounded by tropical rainforest and vibrant greenery, this waterfall is perfect for those looking to escape the crowds and experience Bali’s untouched beauty.

Banyumala Waterfall does not have an ancient history like Bali’s temples, but it holds cultural and natural significance for the local community. The name “Banyumala” is derived from two Balinese words: Banyu meaning water and Mala meaning purity, representing the crystal-clear water that flows through the rocks and jungle. The area has been carefully preserved by local villagers, ensuring that its natural charm remains unspoiled for visitors to enjoy.

Location

Banyumala Waterfall is located in Wanagiri Village, Buleleng Regency, in the northern part of Bali. It is approximately 2.5 hours from Ubud or Denpasar and makes for an excellent addition to a North Bali day trip itinerary. Nearby attractions include Handara Gate, Buyan Lake, and Tamblingan Lake. To reach the waterfall, you will need to hike down a well-maintained jungle path for about 15–20 minutes. The trek can be slightly challenging, so wearing comfortable shoes is recommended.

Best Time to Visit

Visit Sekumpul during the dry season (April to October) for safer trails and clear water. Avoid visiting in heavy rain as the rivers can become dangerous. Mornings offer the best lighting for photography and a more peaceful atmosphere. During the rainy season (November to March), the waterfall is more powerful, but the trail can become slippery and muddy. If you visit during this time, bring extra care and suitable footwear.
